Helping Make Lancaster, CA A Renewable Landmark

Lancaster, CA may not automatically strike people as the green capital of the United States, but the city and surrounding area is doing what we can to make sure we create a sustainable environment. Lancaster is known for its time in the sun, as one of the sunniest cities in the country, and therefore officials have made a firm commitment to become the solar capital of the US.

In a story in the NY Times, the Lancaster mayor had this to say, “We want to be the first city that produces more electricity from solar energy than we consume on a daily basis,” he said. This means Lancaster’s rooftops, alfalfa fields and parking lots must be covered with solar panels to generate a total of 126 megawatts of solar power above the 39 megawatts already being generated and the 50 megawatts under construction. “

It’s quite the project and goal, but our city has one of the best environments to pull it off. Becoming a more sustainable city, with more efficient energy and natural sources will only increase the standard of living in the area.  As an auto repair shop and full service mechanic, we try and do our part as well.

Making sure vehicles are in an optimal performance will also contribute to the cause.  As we’ve pointed out before, the Toyota Prius is the #1 selling car in California. Residents here care about keeping their car clean, usable and eco-friendly. We can help with those goals.  Regular maintenance, brake repair and servicing will prolong the life of your vehicle and keep it in good, running condition that is also safe for the environment.

“We want to make Lancaster the center” of renewable technology, the mayor added. Entrepreneurs should know “that if they come and have an idea to create energy without a carbon footprint,” the local government “will move mountains for them.”
